Free Social Preview Checker

Paste a page and see the card each platform will draw from its Open Graph tags: WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Facebook and X, with the real image cropped the way each crops it. A verdict per platform (large card, small thumbnail, no image) with the reason: image size, file weight, ratio, a relative address, a crawler the server blocks, a head too far down the HTML. Edit the lines and the image to see the fix, copy the tags, and learn why the old card still shows. No sign-up, no login to any platform.

Social Preview Checker · We fetch the page and its image once, as each platform's crawler does. The cards are drawn from each platform's published rules, last checked 20 October 2026.

How to use it

Four cards, four verdicts, one fix

  1. Paste the page

We fetch it as a browser and as each platform's crawler (WhatsApp, LinkedInBot, facebookexternalhit, Twitterbot), read robots.txt for each, read the Open Graph and X tags and where the head sits, then fetch the share image and measure it: pixels, bytes, ratio, format, time.

  2. Read the phones and the verdicts

Four phones show the link as it lands in a WhatsApp chat, a LinkedIn post, a Facebook post and an X post, each drawn with that platform's crop and text limits. Under each, large card, small thumbnail or no image, and the reason in one line.

  3. Fix, copy, refresh

Edit the title, description or image to see the cards change before touching the site; copy the complete tag set with og:image:width and height filled from the image we measured; then refresh the platform's cache where it lets you.

Quick answer

What is a social preview checker?

A social preview checker fetches a page the way WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Facebook and X do and draws the card each one builds from the page's Open Graph tags: the image, the title, the description and the address. It checks what each platform requires, because they differ: WhatsApp wants the image under 600 KB and the head within the first 300 KB of the page; LinkedIn wants at least 1200 by 627 pixels; Facebook wants 600 by 315 for the large card and og:image:width and height for the first share; X wants a 2:1 image and twitter:card for the large card. This one shows the four cards, the verdict per platform and the fix, without a login to any of them.

From each platform's own documentation, checked 20 October 2026: WhatsApp's link preview page for the Business Platform, LinkedIn's "Make your website shareable", Facebook's sharing images guide and X's card documentation. Telegram, Slack and Discord read the same tags; Slack reads only the first 32 KB of a page.

Why the old card still shows

Each platform remembers the first fetch

Facebook: the Sharing Debugger, Scrape again (http and https are cached apart). LinkedIn: the Post Inspector. WhatsApp and X have no refresh tool: share the address with a query string once (?v=2) and the new card is fetched. After a fix, give the platform a new address or a new scrape; checking the same URL in the app shows the cached card, not your work.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Why does my link show no image on WhatsApp?

The image is over 600 KB, under 300 px wide, a relative address, the head is more than 300 KB into the HTML, or the server blocks the WhatsApp crawler. The verdict under the WhatsApp phone names which.

What size should og:image be?

1200 × 630 for all four; LinkedIn's minimum is 1200 × 627; keep it under 600 KB for WhatsApp. A JPG at 80% quality is usually 100 to 200 KB at that size.

Why is my image cropped?

The card is 1.91:1 or 2:1; a square or tall image loses its top and bottom, and a logo on a white square becomes a white strip. Use a real photo made for the size.

Why does the old preview still show?

Each platform caches the first fetch. Facebook: Sharing Debugger, scrape again. LinkedIn: Post Inspector. WhatsApp and X: change the address with a query string.

Do I need twitter:card?

X falls back to og tags for the text and image, but twitter:card = summary_large_image is what picks the large card; without it X shows the small summary with a square crop.

What is og:url for?

The canonical address the card links to. LinkedIn requires it; WhatsApp wants it in the head; keep it free of session and tracking parameters.

Do WordPress plugins set these?

Rank Math and Yoast do, from the social tab. Check the image is set per page, or every page shares the site default.

Does og:image affect Google?

Google reads it when choosing a page's preferred image. A real photo helps there too.

Can I have different text for social and Google?

Yes: og:title and og:description are separate from the title tag and the meta description. Our SERP Snippet Preview handles the Google pair.

Does a WebP image work?

Not everywhere. JPG or PNG is safe on all four.

Why does Facebook show the image only on the second share?

Without og:image:width and og:image:height the first fetch cannot render the image. Our copy-the-tags output fills them from the image we measured.

Why does my page work on Facebook but not WhatsApp?

WhatsApp's limits are stricter: 600 KB and the head within the first 300 KB of the HTML. A page heavy with inline scripts can push the head past that.
