Free PayPal Fee Calculator
See exactly what PayPal takes and what you keep: percentage and fixed fees, local tax, and an estimate in your own currency, before you price or invoice.

* = exact fee % not individually researched for this country yet; a generic estimate is used.
PayPal doesn't publish its exact conversion rate — it typically adds roughly 3–4% above the market rate. Adjust this if you know your account's actual markup.

How to use it
Work out your PayPal fees in three steps
Also called a PayPal charges calculator, commission calculator or G&S fee calculator. It works for Goods and Services payments, invoices and international payments.
Enter the amount and currency
Type the exact amount you received or expect to receive, and pick the currency. Tick "Reverse" if you know what you want to keep and need the price to charge.
Pick your country and payment type
Your country sets the rate and any local tax. Choose International when the buyer is abroad, Domestic when they are in your country. Tick the tax option if tax on PayPal's fee applies to you, and the conversion option to see the result in your own currency.
See the full breakdown
Click Calculate. You get the percentage fee, the fixed fee, any tax, and what lands in your PayPal balance, plus an estimate in your local currency if you asked for one.
Features
What the PayPal fee calculator does
PayPal's fee is never just one number. The calculator shows each part on its own line, so you can see exactly where the money goes.
Percentage plus fixed fee
Both parts of PayPal's fee, calculated together, not a rough percentage guess. The fixed part depends on the currency you receive, with 24 currencies covered.
Domestic or international
PayPal charges more for payments from abroad. Switch between the two and the right rate for your country is applied.
Local tax on the fee
Where it applies, such as 18% GST in India or 12% VAT in the Philippines, the tax on PayPal's fee is added as its own line. Many calculators leave it out.
Currency conversion estimate
See an estimated final amount in your own currency, using today's market rate minus PayPal's typical markup. You can change the markup.
196 countries
Every country PayPal supports is in the list. 17 major markets, including the US, UK, India, Canada, Australia and the eurozone, have their own rates; the rest get a clearly marked estimate.
Reverse mode
Enter what you want to keep and get the exact amount to charge so the fees, and any tax on them, are covered.
How the fee works
How PayPal fees work
Every commercial PayPal payment (Goods and Services, invoices, checkout) costs two numbers added together: a percentage of the payment plus a small fixed fee in the received currency. Payments from abroad use a higher percentage.
PayPal fee = amount × fee % + fixed fee
Example: 100 USD received in the US at 2.99% + 0.49 costs 3.48, so you keep 96.52. The same payment from abroad uses the international rate of 4.49%: 4.98 in fees, 95.02 kept.
You receive = amount − PayPal fee − local tax
In countries like India, 18% GST is charged on PayPal's fee, not on the full payment. On a 10 fee that is 1.80 more.
Conversion happens last
When you withdraw or convert, PayPal applies its own exchange rate to what is left after fees. That markup is a separate cost.
The fixed fee is easy to forget when you price a product, and it hurts small payments most. On a 5 USD payment, 0.49 is almost 10% of the amount on its own. On a 500 USD payment it is about 0.1%.
| Payment received (US, domestic) | PayPal fee | You keep | Fee as % of payment |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 USD | 0.64 | 4.36 | 12.8% |
| 20 USD | 1.09 | 18.91 | 5.5% |
| 100 USD | 3.48 | 96.52 | 3.5% |
| 500 USD | 15.44 | 484.56 | 3.1% |
Goods and Services
PayPal Goods and Services fees
If you sell on Etsy or eBay, invoice a client or take payment for freelance work, you are almost always using PayPal's Goods and Services option.
| Goods and Services | Friends and Family | |
|---|---|---|
| Used for | Sales, invoices, checkout, freelance work | Sending money to people you know |
| Who pays the fee | The seller (you) | Usually the sender, if there is a fee at all |
| Buyer and seller protection | Yes | No |
| Covered by this calculator | Yes | No |
Goods and Services payments carry PayPal's commercial rate, which is higher than personal transfers, but they come with protection for both sides. Domestic Friends and Family transfers are often free, and asking a client to pay that way to dodge the fee breaks PayPal's terms and leaves you both unprotected. The calculator uses commercial rates, because that is what sellers, freelancers and small businesses actually pay.
Exchange rates
PayPal's exchange rate
If you are paid in a different currency from your own, PayPal does not use the mid-market rate you see on Google or XE. It adds its own conversion markup.
- The markup is typically around 3 to 4% below the market rate. PayPal does not publish the exact figure, and it can vary by currency and account.
- The calculator fetches the market rate from the European Central Bank's published rates, then takes off the markup. The markup box fills in a typical value for your currency (for example 3% for USD, EUR and GBP); change it if you know your account's real figure.
- The converted amount is labelled as an estimate, not a guarantee. Only PayPal knows its exact rate at the moment of your transaction.
- Smaller currencies that the ECB does not publish have no live rate. In that case the result says so instead of guessing.

Tips
How to keep more of each payment
Fees add up fast on international work. These habits make a real difference over a year.
Price with reverse mode
If a client agrees to cover fees, run the amount you want through reverse mode and invoice that figure. Adding the percentage on top is not enough, because PayPal also charges a fee on the extra.
Bundle small payments
The fixed fee is the same on 5 or 500. One monthly invoice costs less than ten small ones.
Watch the conversion
PayPal's exchange rate is often 3 to 4% worse than the market rate. Holding the balance in the received currency, or withdrawing through a service with a better rate, can save more than the fee itself.
Check your real rate
Business accounts with high volume or charity status can have lower rates. Compare one real transaction in your PayPal activity with the result here.
Honest limits
Accuracy and limitations
A fee calculator is only useful if you know where its numbers come from.
What this gives you
- Rates for 17 major markets (US, UK, eurozone countries, India, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Japan and more), based on PayPal's published fee pages. For some of them, such as Canada, Australia, Japan, Brazil and Mexico, the percentage is an estimate from PayPal's fee tables, and the result shows a note saying so.
- A clear, itemized breakdown: percentage fee, fixed fee, tax and what you receive, not one lump number.
- A currency conversion estimate for the countries PayPal supports, in each country's own currency, wherever a live market rate is available.
What it cannot guarantee
- PayPal changes its fees from time to time. We update the rates, but check PayPal's merchant fees page for anything business-critical.
- The exact exchange rate PayPal applies at the moment of your transaction. That figure is never published.
- Special rates: volume discounts, charity rates, micropayment pricing and card-processing products have their own pricing.
- Income tax. The calculator covers PayPal's fees and tax charged on those fees, such as GST, not what you owe on your earnings.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is this PayPal fee calculator free?
Yes. No sign-up and no usage limit.
How do I calculate PayPal fees for Goods and Services?
Enter the amount you received, pick your country, and set the payment type to International if the buyer is abroad or Domestic if they are in your country. The calculator applies PayPal's commercial (Goods and Services) rate automatically.
How accurate are the results?
They use the rates PayPal publishes on its fee pages for each country. Your account can differ (volume discounts, promotions, recent changes), so treat the result as a planning estimate and check PayPal's merchant fees page before you rely on it.
How does PayPal's exchange rate compare to the market rate?
PayPal typically adds a markup of roughly 3 to 4% to the mid-market rate you see on Google or at a bank. We fetch the market rate from the European Central Bank's published rates and subtract the markup you set. PayPal does not publish its own rate, so the converted figure is an estimate.
Does it work for PayPal invoices, not just direct payments?
Yes. Invoices, Goods and Services payments and checkout all use the same commercial rates. Friends and Family transfers are priced differently and are not covered.
Does it include GST or other local taxes?
Yes, if you tick the tax option and your country charges tax on PayPal's fee, such as GST in India. You then see the full deduction, not just PayPal's own cut. It does not calculate income tax on your earnings.
Why is the fee different for domestic and international payments?
PayPal adds a cross-border surcharge on top of its standard rate when the buyer is in another country. In the US, for example, that takes the rate from 2.99% to 4.49%. Choosing the right payment type applies the right rate.
Can I calculate fees for a country you have not researched yet?
Yes. Countries marked with * have no individually researched rate yet, so a generic estimate is used, and the result tells you when that happens. You still get a usable number while we add more countries.
Do you store the amounts I enter?
No. The calculation runs on our server and nothing is saved. Exchange rates are cached for a few hours so results are fast.
