How to use it
Work out your Stripe fees in three steps
Also called a Stripe pricing calculator, Stripe processing fee calculator or Stripe commission calculator. It shows what Stripe takes before the money reaches your bank.
Enter the amount
"I Received an Amount" shows what you keep from a payment. "I Want to Keep an Amount" (reverse mode) tells you what to charge so the fees are covered. The amount is in your account's currency.
Select your Stripe country
The country where your Stripe account is registered sets the base rate and the fixed fee automatically.
Tick what applies, then Calculate
Add the international card surcharge, tax on the fee, or a currency conversion, only what is relevant to this payment. Each one shows up as its own line in the breakdown.

Why it matters
Stripe's fee is not just one number
"2.9% + 30¢" is the figure everyone quotes, but it is only the US rate for US cards.
The moment a customer pays with a card from another country, or in a different currency, up to two more charges stack on top. Most people pricing a product or an invoice do not see them until the payout lands short. Outside the US the base rate is different too: a UK card in the UK costs 1.5% + 20p, not 2.9% + 30¢.
This calculator breaks out every piece separately (base rate, international surcharge, tax on the fee and currency conversion) using the rate for your country, not one US number applied everywhere.
How the fee works
The Stripe fee formula
Stripe Fee = (Amount × Rate %) + Fixed Fee. You Receive = Amount − Stripe Fee − Tax on the fee (where it applies). The rate can stack up from two parts, and conversion is a third, separate charge.
Base fee = amount × rate + fixed fee
Example: a 100 USD charge on a US card at 2.9% + 0.30 costs 3.20, so you keep 96.80.
Plus the surcharge for foreign cards
When the card was issued in another country, your country's surcharge is added to the rate. In the US that is 1.5%: the same 100 USD charge costs 4.70, and you keep 95.30.
Plus tax on the fee in some countries
In India, 18% GST is charged on Stripe's fee, not on the payment. A 1,000 INR domestic charge at 2% costs 20 in fees plus 3.60 GST, so you keep 976.40.
Plus conversion if currencies differ
When the customer pays in a different currency from your payout currency, Stripe converts it and charges a fee of around 1 to 2%. It is a separate charge, not part of the card rate.
Rates
Stripe rates by country
A sample of the standard card rates the calculator uses. Choose your country in the tool for the full breakdown; all 51 countries are there.
| Country | Domestic card rate | International card |
|---|---|---|
| United States | 2.9% + $0.30 | +1.5% |
| United Kingdom | 1.5% + £0.20 | +1.5% |
| Eurozone (Germany, France, Ireland…) | 1.5% + €0.25 | +1.5% |
| Canada | 2.9% + C$0.30 | +1.0% |
| Australia | 1.75% + A$0.30 | +1.5% |
| Singapore | 3.4% + S$0.50 | +1.0% |
| Japan | 3.6% flat | No separate surcharge |
| Brazil | 3.99% + R$0.39 | +2.0% |
| Mexico | 3.6% + MX$3.00 | Included in the base rate |
| India (Preview) | 2% + 18% GST on the fee | +3.5% |
| Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Côte d'Ivoire (via Paystack) | 3.8% (estimate) | +1.5% (estimate) |
Some smaller markets, such as Bulgaria, Hungary, Hong Kong and Thailand, use an estimate based on a neighbouring baseline. When that happens, the result shows a note asking you to confirm the rate on Stripe's pricing page.
Features
What the Stripe fee calculator covers
It adds the parts of Stripe's pricing that are easy to miss.
Country-specific rates
Card rates and fixed fees for 51 countries where Stripe takes merchants, in each country's own currency.
International card surcharge
One tick adds your country's surcharge for cards issued abroad, usually 1 to 2%.
Currency conversion
Worked out separately from the card surcharge: what you keep, converted at today's market rate minus Stripe's conversion fee (2% by default, which you can change).
Reverse mode
Enter what you want to keep and get the exact price to charge, fixed fee and tax included.
Local tax on fees
Where Stripe's fee carries local tax, such as 18% GST in India, it is added as its own line. Most calculators miss it.
Honest support status
Preview markets (India, Indonesia) and countries served through Paystack (Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Côte d'Ivoire) are flagged in the result, instead of pretending Stripe works the same everywhere.
Reading the results
What your breakdown means
Every result lists the same lines. Here is what each one is and what you can do about it.
Stripe fee
The percentage of the payment. If it includes the international surcharge, the label says so. Pushing local customers to local cards keeps it at the base rate.
Fixed fee
A flat amount per successful charge. On a 5 payment it can be most of the cost, so small one-off charges are the most expensive to take.
You receive
What reaches your Stripe balance before payout. Use this figure for your margins, not the price the customer saw.
Converted amount
Only shown when you tick conversion. It is an estimate: Stripe's actual rate is set at the time of the charge.
Honest limits
Accuracy and limitations
A fee calculator is only useful if you know where its numbers come from.
What this gives you
- Standard card rates from Stripe's published pricing pages for the major markets, with clearly noted estimates for smaller ones.
- The international surcharge and currency conversion worked out as separate lines, as Stripe charges them.
- Warnings for Preview and Paystack countries, not a false "works everywhere" claim.
What it cannot guarantee
- Stripe updates its pricing from time to time. Always confirm the current rate in your own Stripe dashboard.
- Negotiated, volume or enterprise pricing differs from the standard rates used here.
- Other payment methods (bank debits, Klarna and other wallets with their own pricing), disputes, Stripe Billing and Tax fees are not included.
- The list holds 44 fully supported countries, 2 Preview markets and 5 Paystack countries. If your country is missing, Stripe does not offer merchant accounts there yet, and the calculator does not pretend otherwise.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is this Stripe fee calculator free?
Yes. No sign-up and no usage limit.
Does it calculate international Stripe fees?
Yes. Tick the international card option and your country's cross-border surcharge is added on top of the base rate, the same way Stripe stacks it.
How accurate are the results?
They use the standard card rates Stripe publishes for each country. Negotiated pricing, other payment methods and recent changes are not included, so check your Stripe dashboard before you rely on a figure.
What is the difference between the international surcharge and the conversion fee?
They are separate charges. The surcharge is about where the card was issued. The conversion fee is about currency. A foreign card paying in your own currency only gets the surcharge; a local card paying in another currency only gets the conversion fee. Both can apply to the same payment.
What does reverse mode do?
Instead of telling you what you keep from a charge, it works backwards: you enter the amount you want to keep and it works out the price to charge, including the fixed fee and any tax on the fee, rounded so you keep exactly that amount.
Does it work for every country?
It covers the 51 countries where Stripe, or Paystack (a Stripe company), accepts merchant accounts. Full support, Paystack and Preview markets are labelled in the result. If your country is not in the list, Stripe does not offer accounts there yet; see stripe.com/global for the latest list.
Where does the exchange rate come from?
We use the European Central Bank's published market rate and subtract the conversion fee you set. If no live rate is available for a currency, the conversion line is left out.
Why do different sites show different Stripe rates?
Stripe updates its pricing from time to time, other trackers do not always keep up, and many sites only show the US rate. Ours uses the rate for your country and shows each part separately. Treat any calculator's figure as an estimate and confirm it in your Stripe dashboard before pricing something important.
Do you store the amounts I enter?
No. The calculation runs on our server and nothing is saved. Exchange rates are cached for a few hours so results are fast.
