How to use it

How to remove a background

Quick answer: add your photo, click Remove Background, touch up the edges with the Erase and Restore brush if you need to, and download a transparent PNG. It is free, has no watermark and needs no account. After the first run, each image usually takes a few seconds.

  1. Add your images

Drop them on the box, click to choose, or paste with Ctrl+V. JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF work, up to 10 images at a time.

  2. Click Remove Background

The AI finds the subject (a person, product, pet, logo or signature) and cuts it out. The first time, your browser downloads the AI model (about 110 MB), so give it a minute. After that it is cached.

  3. Refine and customise

Fix hair or edges with Erase and Restore. Keep it transparent, or add a white, coloured, blurred or custom background. Crop, adjust, add a filter or watermark if you like.

  4. Download in full quality

Choose a format in Export (PNG, WebP, JPG and seven more) and save one image, or download them all as a ZIP or a single multi-page PDF.

Why this tool

No paywall on your own image

Many "free" background removers cut the background out for free and then ask you to pay or sign up before you can download the full-resolution result, or they stamp a watermark on it. This one hands you the finished image straight away: no watermark, no account and no low-resolution preview trap.

It is also private by design. The AI model runs inside your own browser, so your photos are never uploaded to a server. That matters for ID photos, signatures, client work and anything else you would rather not hand to a third party.

Full-quality output

Images are processed at up to 4000 px on the longest side on a computer (2200 px on a phone, to save memory). Smaller images keep their original size. You never get a shrunken preview instead of the real file.

No watermark

Every download is clean and ready to use, for personal or commercial work.

Private

Processing happens on your device. Your photos never leave your browser.

All in one place

Remove, edit, resize, compress and convert without jumping between five different websites.

Features

What you can do after the cutout

Removing the background is usually step one. A small photo editor sits around the AI, so you can finish the job here.

AI background removal

One click per image, or Apply to all. It handles people, products, animals, cars, logos and signatures, including tricky edges like hair. Hold the compare button to see the original.

Erase and restore brush

Paint away leftovers or bring back parts the AI missed. Adjustable brush size, zoom for detail, Reset to AI result, and full undo.

Change the background

Keep it transparent, fill it with white or any colour, blur the original for a portrait-mode look, or drop in your own background image. Edge smoothing softens hard outlines.

White background maker

Choose Color and the white swatch for marketplace listings, passport photos and professional headshots.

Crop, rotate and flip

Free crop or fixed ratios (1:1, 4:5, 16:9, 9:16, 3:2), plus rotate and mirror.

Adjust and filters

Brightness, contrast, saturation, exposure, warmth, sharpen, vignette and fade, plus 11 one-click looks such as B&W, Vintage, Cinematic and Noir that you can combine with them.

Watermark

Add your brand name or logo in any of nine positions, or tile it across the image, with your own size, colour and opacity. It goes on every export at once.

Resize with presets

Resize by pixels, by percentage, or pick a preset: Instagram post, portrait and story, Facebook share image, YouTube thumbnail, LinkedIn banner, X header, Amazon/Flipkart and Shopify product, passport, US visa and profile picture.

Compress to a size in KB

Choose WebP, JPG or AVIF, type a maximum file size (for example 50 KB or 200 KB) and the tool finds the best quality that fits.

Convert to 10 formats

PNG, WebP, JPG, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, ICO (favicon), PDF and SVG.

Bulk editing

Edit up to 10 images together. Adjustments, resize, watermark and export settings apply to all of them, and you download them as a ZIP or one multi-page PDF.

Undo, zoom and dark mode

Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y to undo and redo, zoom in for precise edges, and a dark editor for late-night work.

Use cases

Each card ends with the quickest route through the editor.

Product photos

Clean white-background images for Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, Shopify and Etsy listings. Remove BG → Color: white → Resize preset 2000×2000.

Passport and visa photos

Replace a messy background with plain white, then resize to passport (35×45 mm) or US visa (2×2 in). Always check your country's official photo rules too. Remove BG → White → Passport preset.

Transparent signature

Photograph your signature on white paper and turn it into a transparent image for PDFs, Word or online forms. Remove BG → Export WebP → Max file size 20 KB (or PNG if the form needs PNG).

Make a logo transparent

Remove the white box around a logo so it sits cleanly on a website, slide or merchandise. Remove BG → Export PNG or WebP.

Profile picture

Cut yourself out and add a bold colour or blurred background for LinkedIn, WhatsApp or Instagram. Remove BG → Color → Profile preset.

Presentations and thumbnails

Cutouts for PowerPoint, Google Slides, YouTube thumbnails and social posts. Remove BG → YouTube preset → PNG.

Under the hood

How the AI removes backgrounds

The tool uses an image-segmentation model that looks at every pixel and decides how much of it belongs to the main subject. The result is an alpha matte, a soft transparency mask, so edges like hair and fur fade naturally instead of looking cut out with scissors.

On a computer running Chrome or Edge with WebGPU, it uses BiRefNet, an open-source high-resolution model known for fine edge detail. On phones, and on browsers without WebGPU, it switches automatically to ISNet, a lighter model that works almost everywhere but is a little less detailed. If one model fails to load, the tool tries the next one by itself. Both run entirely on your device.

The first time you use it, your browser downloads the AI library and model (about 110 MB). After that they are cached, so the next images are processed in a few seconds.

Tips

Tips for a perfect cutout

The AI does most of the work. These habits fix the rest.

Start with a clear photo

A sharp subject that stands out from the background gives the cleanest edges. Busy or same-coloured backgrounds make edges harder to find.

Use the biggest version you have

Higher resolution gives the AI more detail to work with. Start from the original photo, not a screenshot or a copy shrunk by a chat app.

Zoom in before you brush

Use Restore on hair, fur and thin parts the AI dropped, and Erase on gaps between arms or under chins. A small brush and zoom give precise edges.

Soften hard edges

Raise Edge smoothing when you place the cutout on a new background, so it blends in more naturally.

Pick a format that keeps transparency

PNG and WebP keep the transparent background. JPG has no transparency and fills it with white, so choose your background colour first.

Hit a size limit

For upload forms, resize to the size the site asks for first, then choose WebP or JPG in Export and type a maximum file size in KB.

Formats

Supported file formats

You can upload JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF images. iPhone HEIC photos open in Safari; in other browsers, convert them to JPG first. You can export to any of these 10 formats:

FormatTransparencyBest for
PNGYesCutouts, logos, signatures, design work
WebPYesWebsites: the smallest files that keep transparency
JPGNo (white)Photos, marketplace listings, forms
AVIFYesModern websites, very small files (if your browser can export it)
GIFYes (hard edges)Simple graphics and chat stickers (256 colours)
TIFFYesPrint and archiving
BMPNo (white)Older software
ICOYesWebsite favicons (16 to 256 px in one file)
PDFYesDocuments, or several images in one file
SVGYesPlacing the image in SVG-based designs (the image is wrapped, not turned into vectors)

Quality and Max file size only apply to JPG, WebP and AVIF. The other formats are not compressed by quality, so pick one of those three when you need a smaller file.

Privacy

Your photos stay on your device

Every step (background removal, editing, compression and conversion) happens inside your browser. Your browser downloads the AI model once, but your images are never uploaded, stored or used for training. Close the tab and they are gone. That makes it a safe choice for ID documents, signatures, family photos and client images.

Honest limits

What it does, and what it doesn't

✓ Works great for

  • People, portraits and group photos
  • Products, packaging and e-commerce shots
  • Logos, signatures, clipart and text on paper
  • Pets, cars, furniture and most everyday objects
  • Batches of up to 10 images at a time, as often as you like

✕ Not designed for

  • Video or animated GIF background removal
  • Removing a specific object or person from inside a photo
  • Glass, smoke and see-through objects (these may need brush touch-ups)
  • Very old phones and browsers: the AI needs a reasonably modern device
  • Huge images: anything larger than 4000 px (2200 px on a phone) on its longest side is scaled down to that size

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is this background remover really free?

Yes. Removing backgrounds, editing and downloading are completely free, with no watermark, no sign-up and no paid HD tier. Because the AI runs on your own device, there is no daily limit on background removals either.

Can I download the result in HD?

Yes, there is no low-resolution preview. Images are processed at up to 4000 pixels on the longest side on a computer (2200 on a phone, to save memory). Larger images are scaled down to that size; smaller ones keep their size.

How do I make an image background transparent?

Add the image, click Remove Background, keep New background set to None, and export as PNG or WebP. Both formats keep the transparency.

How do I add a white background to a photo?

Remove the background, choose Color under New background and click the white swatch, then download. JPG and BMP exports also turn transparent areas white automatically.

Are my images uploaded to your server?

No. The AI model runs inside your browser and all editing happens on your device. Your photos are never sent to our server or stored anywhere.

Can I remove the background from multiple images at once?

Yes, up to 10 images. Click Apply to all images, then download everything as a ZIP file, or as one PDF with a page per image.

Can I remove the background from a signature or logo?

Yes. Signatures and logos on plain paper or a white background work especially well. Download as PNG or WebP to keep the transparency, and use Max file size (with WebP or JPG) if a form needs a small file.

Why is the first background removal slower?

The first time, your browser downloads the AI model (about 110 MB). It is cached afterwards, so later images take just a few seconds.

Which browser works best?

The latest Chrome or Edge on a computer. They use the high-quality BiRefNet model on your graphics card. Other browsers and phones use the lighter ISNet model, which is a bit slower and less detailed.

Does it work on mobile phones?

Yes, on most modern Android phones and iPhones. It uses the lighter model and a 2200 px working size to stay within phone memory, so it is slower and slightly less detailed than on a computer. Very old devices may not be able to run the AI.

Can I remove a background from a video or GIF?

Not at the moment. The tool is built for still images. You can still export a still image as a GIF.

Can I use the images commercially?

Yes. There is no watermark and no usage restriction from this tool. You only need the rights to the original photo you upload.
