Free Redirect Map Generator

A migration's redirects are only as good as its map. Paste or fetch your old URL list and the new site's, and the generator matches them for you: the same path, the same slug in a new folder, then the closest slug, each with a confidence you can see. Fix the leftovers, mark dead pages 410, catch chains, loops and home-page dumping, and export the rules for Apache, Nginx, Cloudflare, WordPress, Rank Math, Shopify, Netlify, Vercel or IIS. Then test the map in our Redirect Checker. Your lists stay in your browser. No sign-up.

Redirect Map Generator · Your URL lists stay in this browser. We only fetch a sitemap when you ask for one.

One per line; a title after a comma or tab helps the matching. Add URLs from Search Console, analytics and the Log File Analyzer too, not just the sitemap.
Every page of the new site: its sitemap, or a crawl export.

How to use it

Lists, review, export

  1. Add the old and new URL lists

Paste them, or fetch each site's sitemap (the new one from staging works). Add the old URLs that are not in the sitemap too: Search Console's pages report, analytics landing pages, backlinks and your server logs.

  2. Review the matches and the leftovers

Same path and same slug matches are ready; closest-slug guesses show a percentage to check. Pick a target for each leftover, or mark it 410. Fix every warning: home-page dumping, chains, loops.

  3. Export, then test

Download the rules or the import file for your platform. Send the map to the Redirect Checker and test it on staging before launch, and again on the live site the day you switch.

Quick answer

What is a redirect map?

A redirect map lists every old URL of a site with the new URL it should send visitors and Google to, and the status code: 301 (or 308) for a page that moved, 410 for one that is gone with no equivalent. It is built from every source of old URLs (the old sitemap and crawl, Search Console, analytics, backlinks and logs), matched one to one to the page that answers the same need, never all to the home page. The map is then turned into server rules or an import file and tested on staging before launch.

Where the old URL list comes from

More than the sitemap

SourceWhat it adds
Old sitemap or a crawlEvery page the old site links to. Fetch the sitemap here, or paste a crawler's export.
Search Console, Pages and PerformanceURLs Google has indexed or shows in results, including ones the site no longer links to.
Analytics landing pagesThe pages people actually arrive on, from search, ads and email.
Backlink reportsOld URLs other sites link to: a missed one loses that link's value.
Server logsWhat Googlebot still requests. The Log File Analyzer lists them.

How the matching works

Path, slug, closest slug, and its limits

First the same path (case, trailing slash and index.html ignored). Then the same last segment in a new folder, after dropping .html and .php endings and trailing ids, so /product/blue-kurti-1182.html finds /products/blue-kurti. Then the closest slug by shared words and spelling, with titles when you give them (a URL, a comma, then the title). Each match shows how it was made and a percentage; anything below 85% is flagged to check. Words that mean the same thing but are spelled differently (kurti and kurta, mobiles and phones) need you: a tool cannot know them.

Which code

301, 308 or 410

CodeUse it when
301The page moved. The safe default: every server, plugin and platform supports it.
308Also permanent, and keeps the request method (a form POST stays a POST). Google treats it like a 301.
410The page is gone and nothing on the new site answers the same need. Not a redirect to the home page: Google treats that as a soft 404.
302Only for a short, temporary move. Not for a migration "until we are sure".

Keep the redirects for at least a year, and longer while links and visitors still arrive on the old URLs.

The export formats

Where each file goes

FormatWhere to put it
ApacheRedirect 301 lines (RewriteRule for query strings) in .htaccess, above the CMS rules.
NginxA map in the http block and one return line in the server block.
Cloudflare CSVRules, Bulk Redirects: a list upload. No header row, sources without https://.
WordPress RedirectionThe Redirection plugin's Tools, Import.
Rank MathRank Math Pro's Redirections import, with its header row.
Shopify CSVOnline store, Navigation, URL redirects, Import ("Redirect from", "Redirect to").
Netlify, Vercel, IISA _redirects file, the redirects array of vercel.json, or web.config rewrite rules.
Plain CSVThe whole map with the match and how, for a spreadsheet or a developer.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Are my URL lists uploaded?

No. Matching, review and export all run in your browser, and the map is kept in this browser only. A sitemap you ask us to fetch is read by our server and its URLs sent back.

How do I create a redirect map for a site migration?

Collect every old URL, match each to the new page with the same purpose, mark the dead ones 410, export the rules and test them on staging.

Should I redirect all old pages to the home page?

No. Google treats it as a soft 404. Map one to one, to the closest category if there is no exact page, or 410.

301 or 410 for removed pages?

301 when a close page exists; 410 when there is no equivalent.

How long should I keep redirects?

At least a year, and longer while links still arrive.

How do I add bulk redirects in .htaccess?

One Redirect 301 line per old URL, or a RewriteRule with ^ and $ anchors when the query string matters, placed before the CMS rules. The Apache export writes them.

How do I bulk import redirects into WordPress, Shopify or Cloudflare?

Each takes a CSV in its own layout. Pick the format in step 5 and download it.

Do redirects pass link equity?

Yes, permanent redirects consolidate the old URL's signals onto the new one. A chain of hops slows that down, so the tool flags targets that redirect again.

What about query strings and trailing slashes?

By default the path is matched and every query version follows it. Switch to the full URL when a query string is a different page. The trailing slash option writes targets the way the new site serves them.

How do I test the redirects?

Press Test in the Redirect Checker: the map opens in its map tab, riskiest rows first, and each row passes or fails with the reason.
